Women's sense of self-worth

There are two powers in the world. One is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a third power stronger than both , that of women. “
Women empowerment is made up of two words, women and empowerment. To give power or authority to someone is called empowerment. It means that women should have equal opportunity in every field without any discrimination. And women should be physically, mentally and socially strong.
Women were highly respected in the vedic ages. In India, in ancient days women enjoyed respect, education and reverence. Before independence the condition of women was very poor. There were many social evils in the society like sati pratha, child marriages, slavery , illiteracy etc. Social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Savitri Bhai Phule etc worked to eradicate social evils from society. Gradually ,after independence women started regaining the lost power.
Today , they proved themselves in every field like Saina nehwal, Marry Com, Huma Das in sports, A Chatterjee, Tessi Thomas in Science, kiran Bedi, Bhawna kanth, Avani chaturvedi , in police and Force etc., Mamta banerjee, Smriti Irani, Nirmla Sitaraman in politics, Lata mangesker, sunidhi chauhan , Shreya ghosal in music, Uma sharma, Sudha Chandran, Hema malini, shovna narayan in classical dance etc.

Need of Women empowerment

History says that women were ill treated . The patriachal society suppressed women’s freedom across the world. Women were not allowed to vote or even to give their opinion. Also, there was no involvement of women in decision making. At present, women are facing various crimes like acid attack, dowry system, honour killing, domestic violence etc. Due to female infanticide practices, number of girls is reducing day by day. India is among the nation’s where women are still not safe. Female infanticide, discrimination,Domestic violence, rape, murder, unequal wages are the major problems in India.

“Be the heroine of your life, not the victim”

We can empower women by eliminating Child marriages, by educating them, by gender equality in India. The humiliation of divorce and abuse must be thrown out of society. Parents must educate their daughters, it’s wrong to tolerate anyone’s abuse even if they are abused by their own family members. Parents should make their daughters mentally strong.
Women are empowered when they are able to acess opportunities in various fields such as education, profession, lifestyle etc. without any limitations and restrictions. Raise them through education, awareness, literacy and training. Women can be empowered in various ways. It can be through government schemes as well as on an individual basis.
We all should respect women and start giving her respect and equal opportunity. Government has come up with various schemes such as Beti Bachao, Beti padao yojna, Mahila- e – Haat, Mahila shakti kendra, Sukanya Samriddhi yojna, Mission shakti Abhiyaan etc.

Apart from these, the most important step to empower women is to Boost her self esteem, provide her opportunity to become a mentor and appreciate her efforts. Education and awareness are the most important things which make every woman supreme. Women should realise that being a woman should be your supreme achievement . Fuel yourself with self confidence.

Corona Pandemic Challenges & Role of Youth

Young people in India are capable to take the country out of the shackles of the ongoing health and humanitarian crisis. As the daily reports suggest, the poorest and the most marginalized (daily wagers, migrant workers, hawkers, contractual, etc.) are disproportionately impacted since their livelihoods and incomes are lost, with reports of them being confined in undignified conditions of shelters going around. Among the most impacted are the hapless migrants (youth are among the largest among the migrants), who are starved of funds and food and hardly have resources or space to practice social distancing.
The Challenges-
State of Public Health Care in India: The Indian government’s expenditure on health as a percentage of GDP still hovers around 1·5%, one of the lowest in the world. For around 52% of households in urban areas, and 44% of households in rural areas, the private sector is the main source of health care when they are sick, according to government data. It is insufficient to take on a pandemic like COVID-19.

Misinformation and Stigma: Stigma has further aggravated the problem. Misinformation and Stigmatisation has led many people running away from the quarantine centres / hospitals and people are not coming forward. The issue of stigmatization stems from fear, prejudice, divisiveness, sometimes from racism, and lack of correct information.

Water and Sanitation: The preventive measures require frequent washing of hands apart from maintaining physical distance and practising isolation. Despite tackling the challenge in a mission mode, there remains critical gaps in access of people to potable water and sanitation facilities.

Impact of Lockdown: The nation-wide lockdown has led to loss of livelihood, education, access to family planning and sexual and reproductive health services among young couples and young people. There is an increase in reported cases of gendered and domestic violence.

The Intervention –
It is about empowerment and participation – backed by rigorous structure, process, quality assurance, and investment in people. It is both a means – a way of achieving change and impacts for young people and their communities, youth leading development, and an end in itself – building the capacity, skills and confidence of young people, creating a generation of leaders, and forging sustainable linkages in communities.

The Role of Young People-

In increasing numbers, young people are proactively combating the spread of the virus and working to address the pandemic’s impacts.

Raising awareness and enhancing connections:
They are at the forefront of risk communication initiatives, for instance, they can:

Address misinformation, discrimination and stigma related to the crisis
Disseminate information about COVID-19 using various platforms in official and local languages.

Young people:

•Can promote guidance and guidelines and address the COVID-19 related needs of the most vulnerable in their communities.

•Can provide guidance on thorough hand washing practices to reduce the spread of the virus.

•Can safely help seniors and other at-risk groups to access supplies, such as food and medication.

•Can provide tools for physical activities and sport using social media, during the confinement.

•Can find ways to check on, and support others’ mental health through social media.

•Can also contribute to data-collection and monitoring, including in relation to marginalized communities, to assess the COVID-19 response
